Where To Eat As A Vegetarian In Plovdiv? Nice Hotspots!
To be fair: Bulgaria is not the easiest country to visit for a vegetarian. The Bulgarians love their fair share of meat (and cheese and yoghurt). But Plovdiv is a delight for many vegetarians, with the many vegetarian and even vegan friendly restaurants in the city. I have visited Plovdiv often in the last 5 years and although some hotspots have closed, there are still plenty to discover as a vegetarian in Plovdiv. In this article I share some of my favourite hotspots in Plovdiv that are vegetarian and sometimes even vegan friendly!
Last update & prices in the article are from February 2026.

Where To Eat As A Vegetarian In Plovdiv? 4 Of My Recommendations!
1. Veggic
If you can only visit one place as a vegetarian, let it be Veggic. With a nice location in the creative Kapana area this is a great hotspot with a full vegetarian menu (actually they are a vegan restaurant)! This is my go to place when I visit Plovdiv – and even non-vegetarian friends love this place as well.
It doesn’t matter if you want something sweet or savory: they have it all here in Veggic. Some of my favourites that I had here are the seitan and the grilled tofu döner. They get very creative with food (think sushi in the shape of a cake) and it always looks super photogenic (check their Instagram).
The restaurant is not very big, with just a few seats inside and outside.

2. Green Library
Green Library is a biological restaurant with lots of options for vegetarians in Plovdiv. It might not be the cheapest place in town to eat, but they have delicious options and I think it’s good value for the money. Whether you’re in the mood for some avocado toast, an acai bowl or some beetroot hummus with pea-balls: you’ll fill your stomach with some nice food here.
They are doing lots of cakes and pies as well, and if you follow them on Instagram you can see that they are pieces of art!

3. Mekitsa & Coffee
I’m a big fan of mekitsa: a Bulgarian snack that is best described as a fried doughnut or fried bread. For the Dutch people: it tastes a lot like “een oliebol”. A good mekitsa is soft and chewy from the inside, yet crispy from the outside.
Mekitsi (plural) are usually topped with sweet things like honey, jam, chocolate and sugar. But it’s possible to have it with other toppings like cheese as well. At Mekitsa & Coffee they have so many options! And most options are vegetarian-friendly. Definitely something to try if you have a sweet tooth and want to try a popular Bulgarian snack.

4. Aylyakria
One of my favourite spots in the area of Kapana is Aylyakria. “Aylyak” is slang in Plovdiv for “a chill vibe and relaxing”. They have all kinds of dishes: meat, fish, vegetarian and even vegan. A great place to go if you have a mixed group with different wishes regarding the food. I can really appreciate that they put a lot of effort in the presentation, and also in the flavours of the food.
